Breast Surgery
From breast cancer surgery to breast augmentation – recreate your desired breast type.
Breast Augmentation
augmentation mammoplasty
Breast augmentation (augmentation mammoplasty) is a common surgical procedure using implants or fat transfer (lipotransfer) to enlarge the breasts. The procedure can also help with improving the symmetry of unevenness of the breasts.
The procedure involves a consultation session with me to discuss the best choice of augmentation surgery, types of implants, implant positions and procedure risks. In the case of implants, an incision will be made usually below the breast for the insertion of the implant. I would advise going for a natural look that will augment subtly rather than an obvious augmented look but the final choice would rest in your hands.
Lipotransfer of transfer of fat is usually a staged procedure and the size of the breast will change as you put on or lose weight. In a certain subset of patients, the NAC (nipple Areolar Complex) may need to be moved either during the augmentation or before (staged procedure) to achieve the optimum result.
Revision augmentation can also be done but requires a more detailed discussion regarding the changes.
Recovery
- Mild discomfort and swelling for several weeks is common.
- Support garment or sports bra might be required for up to 6 weeks.
- Depending on recovery speed, most patients will be able to return to non-strenuous jobs or activities after 1-2 weeks.
- It is recommended to avoid strenuous arm activities and swimming for 4 weeks.
- Scars may fade, but it will never fully disappear. Proper aftercare is important to avoid significant scarring or loss of skin.
Breast Reduction
reduction mammaplasty
Breast reduction (reduction mammoplasty) is a contouring procedure to reduce and reshape the breasts by removing excess fat, tissue and skin of the breasts. Common reasons for the surgery include neck or back pain, skin irritation under the breasts and disproportionated breasts to body.
A keyhole shape incision will be made around the areola and downward on the breast and excess skin, fat and tissue will be removed. The areola will be relocated to ensure the optimum breast shape.
In certain patients, the size and shape of the breast may be satisfactory but the location of the NAC (nipple Areolar Complex) may be lower than ideal. In this case, a Mastopexy can be performed.

Breast Lifting
mastopexy
Breast lift (mastopexy) procedure tightens the tissue to shape and raise droopy breasts without changing the size. In some cases, the procedure can help reduce the size of the areola.
An incision will be made to remove excess skin, fat and tissue, lift and reshape the breast tissue, followed by repositioning of the nipple and areola.

Breast Reconstruction
Breast reconstruction procedure restores one or both breasts to shape and contour the breasts to a near normal appearance, typically after breast cancer mastectomy or due to lumpectomy or congenital deformities.
The reconstruction procedure can be performed using either the patient’s tissue for flap reconstruction or prosthetic materials such as tissue expander or breast implants . Following the surgery, other reconstruction surgeries such as areola reconstruction, breast augmentation, liposuction and scar revision surgery might be done to further restore the breast to a near normal shape.

Lipotransfer
Lipotransfer, also known as fat grafting or fat injection, is a procedure involving transferring excess fat from areas such as the outer thighs for the purpose of filling and smoothening out depression or lines on the skin. Typically used to enhance the tissues often face, breast, buttocks and hands, the lipotransfer fat can also be used in damaged skin like a chronic wound or post radiotherapy skin.
Recovery
- The initial result may look overwhelming, however it will shrink overtime due to the breakdown of fat cells.
- Several sessions of fat injections may be required to achieve desired results.
- Swelling and bruising is common for the first week.
- Depending on recovery speed, most patients will be able to return to non-strenuous jobs or activities after 1-2 weeks.
